The Calgary Party

Our Plan

A Common-Sense Agenda for Calgary.

A Growing Calgary

Living in one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities, Calgarians deserve a City Hall committed to making Calgary’s growth painless, seamless, and efficient. This means ensuring development is streamlined and minimally disruptive by prioritizing faster permitting processes, proactive infrastructure upgrades, and smart urban planning that anticipates future needs. By fostering a business-friendly environment, we can also accelerate growth while maintaining the quality of life Calgarians expect.

Two areas where Calgarians have been feeling these growing pains day-to-day are transportation and cost of living. The Calgary Party will prioritize addressing both of these challenges.

  • Getting Calgary Moving Again - With traffic congestion worsening and unreliable public transit, Calgarians need immediate solutions. The Calgary Party will prioritize reducing congestion and improving transit, creating a connected, efficient city for all. The Calgary Party will focus on improving the city's transportation infrastructure by implementing initiatives to reduce congestion, enhance public transit options, and promote accessible transportation solutions across the city. These efforts will ensure Calgary has a more efficient, connected, and sustainable transportation system that benefits all Calgarians, making daily commutes easier and improving overall quality of life as our city continues to grow.
  • Easing the Cost of Housing, Cost of Living - As housing costs soar and living expenses burden more families, The Calgary Party will tackle these challenges head-on through increased housing supply and streamlined development processes. Additionally, new housing developments should integrate seamlessly into communities, enhancing the city's vibrancy without the disruptions of prolonged construction and bureaucratic delays.

With bold leadership and a commitment to proactive solutions, The Calgary Party will ensure that the city’s rapid growth enhances, rather than hinders, the quality of life Calgarians expect and deserve. Our vision for Calgary is one where progress is felt immediately and positively, benefiting both residents and businesses. Together, we can build a more livable, affordable, and dynamic city for everyone.

More to come.

Safety and security are the foundation of any thriving community. The Calgary Party is committed to creating safer neighborhoods through proactive measures and community collaboration. This will include a focus on:

  • Strengthening community policing initiatives - A consistent and trusted police presence is essential for building strong community relationships and ensuring public safety. By providing the Calgary Police Service with the tools and resources they need to cultivate relationships within our communities, we can develop more cooperative efforts in addressing crime. This not only helps deter criminal activity but also allows law enforcement to become an integral part of the community, making it easier to identify and respond to local concerns quickly and effectively.
  • Investing in comprehensive crime prevention programs - Crime prevention begins by addressing its root causes. The Calgary Party is committed to funding initiatives that empower individuals to make better life choices and break cycles of criminal behaviour. These programs create safer communities by empowering individuals to make positive life choices, breaking cycles of criminal or harmful behaviour, and enhancing public safety overall.
  • Enhancing coordination between law enforcement agencies, local government, and community stakeholders - Preventing and addressing crime effectively requires coordinated efforts across law enforcement, government, and local stakeholders. The Calgary Party will facilitate better communication to ensure resources are used efficiently. To achieve this, The Calgary Party will enhance communication and coordination among these groups, ensuring the efficient use of valuable resources to meet their strategic goals and needs. By leveraging the unique strengths of each group—whether it’s the specialized knowledge of social workers or the local insights of community leaders—we can create a more unified and effective response to crime.

By fostering open communication and shared goals, these initiatives will create a support network that extends beyond traditional policing to incorporate engagement, crime prevention initiatives, and better coordination between various community stakeholders. This holistic approach to public safety recognizes that crime is not merely a policing issue but one that can be addressed through community-wide efforts to improve the overall well-being of Calgarians.

Calgarians want a City that works - a city where our communities, infrastructure, and public spaces reflect a sense of pride, opportunity and culture. Last year we welcomed nearly 100,000 new Calgarians to live and work in our city. Supporting this level of growth requires a City Hall that can provide and manage essential services crucial to the daily lives of Calgarians, while maintaining a high standard of service delivery. This means:

  • Delivering reliable services - Calgarians expect the basics to work--and they deserve a city where essential services are reliable and efficient. From well-maintained roads to cleared snow, we’ll ensure daily life runs smoothly for all. Infrastructure isn’t just about fixing potholes; it’s about creating safe, reliable, and livable spaces that people can trust. When these essentials are handled effectively, it allows our city to thrive and ensures that every Calgarian can go about their day with confidence.
  • Creating vibrant public spaces - Creating vibrant public spaces is about more than just parks and plazas—it’s about building the heart and soul of Calgary. These spaces are where communities come together, cultures meet, and new Calgarians discover all the opportunity this city has to offer. They are powerful catalysts for change and innovation, providing us with the platform to reimagine everything from sustainable infrastructure to safer neighborhoods, while sparking deeper community connections and engagement. By investing in these shared spaces, we invest in the future of our city.
  • Investing in resilient infrastructure - Calgary’s recent water crisis is a stark reminder of the urgent need to keep our infrastructure up to date. The cost of regular maintenance pales in comparison to the financial and social toll of emergency shutdowns or disasters, which can affect our communities. For a growing city like Calgary, investing in resilient infrastructure is not just smart planning—it’s essential for ensuring that our communities continue to thrive and that we can meet the needs of both current and future residents.

To build a city that works for everyone, we must prioritize smart planning, reliable services, and vibrant spaces. The Calgary Party is committed to ensuring that as our city grows, we maintain the quality of life that makes Calgary an exceptional place to live. Together, we can build a more connected, resilient, and thriving Calgary for generations to come.

Calgary is a city where things get done. We consistently punch above our weight, driving Canada's economic growth, leading industrial innovation, and embracing bold entrepreneurial risks. As Alberta’s economic engine, Calgary fuels the province’s prosperity across sectors ranging from energy to technology. Yet despite this outsized impact, Calgary still struggles to secure a fair deal from the provincial government—one that reflects our true value and ensures equitable investment in our city's future.

The Calgary Party proposes a new - and better - deal for Calgary. This will entail:

  • Redefining and strengthening the Calgary-Alberta Relationship - Calgary deserves a stronger partnership with the provincial government, one that reflects our economic contributions and helps us thrive. As the province's largest economic hub, Calgary plays a critical role in driving Alberta’s growth, from attracting global investment to fostering innovation across industries. Calgarians are not just ambassadors of Alberta; they are leading contributors to the province's long-term success. By building a municipal-provincial relationship that empowers Calgary and its residents to reach their full potential, we can ensure that both the city and the province thrive.
  • Keeping a fair share of property taxes in Calgary - Currently, 35% of the property taxes collected from Calgarians goes directly to the province — a significant portion that could be better used to support the essential services and infrastructure we rely on every day. It’s time to keep that money in Calgary to invest in critical projects, prevent unnecessary tax hikes, and secure our future growth. By retaining a fair share of our tax revenue, we can build the infrastructure we need, enhance public services, and accelerate our city’s economic development.

By implementing a better deal for Calgary, we can build a city that not only meets the needs of residents today but also lays a strong foundation for future generations. A new deal for Calgary is not just an investment in our city; it’s a commitment to our shared prosperity and a recognition of the vital role we play in Alberta’s success.
