Calgary holds immense potential to become a vibrant, prosperous city for all residents. We urgently need strong leaders and responsible decision-makers to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent on addressing the priorities and needs of Calgarians. However, Mayor Gondek and her city council have repeatedly failed to listen to Calgarians.
Listening to and responding to citizen priorities is essential. That’s why The Calgary Party decided to act. We developed an online public survey to gather practical input on the City’s budget across its 64 spending lines. More than 3000 Calgarians participated, and their feedback revealed clear priorities.
The majority of Calgarians we heard from do not support across-the-board cuts, an approach that this City Council has embraced. Instead, Calgarians favour targeted investments in four critical areas: transit, fire response, affordable housing, and public safety.
