Contribution Rules 

Who Can Donate?
  • Eligible Donors: Individuals residing in Alberta, corporations operating in Alberta, and Alberta-based trade unions.
Donation Limits

  1. To Individual Candidates (e.g., Brian Thiessen Campaign)

    • Annual Limit: Donors can contribute up to $5,000 to candidates in Calgary each calendar year.
    • How it Works: This total is shared across all candidates. For example, if a donor gives $1,000 to another Calgary candidate, they can give $4,000 more to other candidates.

  2. To Municipal Political Parties (e.g., The Calgary Party)

    • Annual Limit: Donors can give up to $5,000 to all municipal political parties within a year, in addition to the individual candidate limit.
    • How it Works: This $5,000 limit applies to all municipal political parties combined. For instance, if a donor has already given to another municipal party, only the remaining amount up to $5,000 can be given to The Calgary Party.
